This is a bit of a how long is a piece of string question, but generally, anywhere from 3 weeks for smaller projects up to 3 months for large specialty publications.

For every project I require a 50% upfront deposit which locks the project into my schedule with the remaining 50% invoiced on completion.

Draft or final content as well as any previous collateral are a good place to start. You can also send through any examples of work you like as a reference point.
